THE IMPORTANCE OF WORK - LIFE BALANCE (WLB)

 

Work-life balance is typically defined as the amount of time you spend doing your job versus the amount of time you spend doing what's important to you outside of work, whether that is with loved ones or pursuing personal interests and hobbies.

  • family
  •  health,
  • recreation, and 
  • other commitments
Work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. The other four balls-- family, health, friends, integrity-- are made of glass. If you drop one of these, it will be irrevocably scuffed, nicked, perhaps even shattered.”

When work demands more of your time or attention, you'll have less time to handle your other responsibilities or passions.




Why Is Work-life Balance( WLB) Important?

Without a work-life balance,
  •  Damage to Overall well-being which includes physical, emotional and mental health



  • Lead to impaired sleep


  • Depression


  • Heavy drinking habits





  • Diabetics





  • Impaired memory




  • Heart Deaceses



  • Burnout and negative repercussions




For Organizations working too many hours decreases employees' productivity which leads to a decrease in the organization's productivity as well.




Ways to Improve Work-life Balance

  • Pause and evaluate
Take the time to understand how the various parts of your life are impacting one another. Pause and consider your current work-life situation; 

ask yourself how you feel. 
  1. Am I  spending enough quality time doing what I really want?
  2. Am I committing enough time and energy to people that are meaningful to me?
  3. Do I still feel aligned with my professional or personal goals?  Why or Why not?
  4. Where do I feel the most Stuck? what is it about this situation that makes me feel that way?

  • Assess Priorities
  1. What really matters to me ? and am I doing enough of it?
  2. Where Can I make compromises? Where have I been making too many compromises?
  3. What can I do to ensure I am devoting enough time to my goals and relationships?
  4. Where can I integrate my responsibilities so I honour more than one at the same time?
  • Manage Time

While the post provides a thorough explanation of work-life balance, In today's hectic and demanding work settings, is work-life balance really realistic, or are we setting ourselves up for an unachievable ideal? Although the idea of work-life balance is generally advocated for its advantages, the actuality of today's work culture sometimes hides the boundaries between work and personal life, making it difficult to achieve a flawless balance.
